The Naads That Farmers want – Dialogue Report

Focus Group Dialogue: 11 February 2011 in Kampala
ESFIM and UNFFE organised a kick-off workshop in Kampala on 11 February 2011 to start research activities for the “Farmers and NAADS” lobby strategy of UNFFE. During the workshop a Focus Group Dialogue will get necessary input from key stakeholders and experts on how the implement the research activities.

The workshop was organised at the Fairview Hotel. Organisers are Morrison Twesigye Rwakakamba and Augustine Mwendya (UNFFE). The powerpoint and workshop report are attached above.


Farmers call for NAADS changes

Farmers who gathered at the 18th Source of the Nile National Agricultural and Trade Show in Jinja recently made at least one common plea; an improvement in the services offered by the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS). The plea, made at what was a platform to unveil new technology innovations in the agricultural sector, is yet another indication of the difficulties NAADS is going through to fan out all the negative publicity it has garnered. The call is also another measure of the declining faith in NAADS among farmers.

Charles Ogang, President of the Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNFFE), is one man who rarely minces his words: “NAADS needs serious surgery and overhaul,” he said, adding “We call for a participatory review process of the NAADS programme and active participation of the farmers in NAADS implementation.”
