Farmers call for NAADS changes

Farmers who gathered at the 18th Source of the Nile National Agricultural and Trade Show in Jinja recently made at least one common plea; an improvement in the services offered by the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS). The plea, made at what was a platform to unveil new technology innovations in the agricultural sector, is yet another indication of the difficulties NAADS is going through to fan out all the negative publicity it has garnered. The call is also another measure of the declining faith in NAADS among farmers.
Charles Ogang, President of the Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNFFE), is one man who rarely minces his words: “NAADS needs serious surgery and overhaul,” he said, adding “We call for a participatory review process of the NAADS programme and active participation of the farmers in NAADS implementation.”
